Another Day in Paradise

Today, we tried something different with our camp kids. Instead of taking them on the marsh trail, we asked for permission from the director to walk them to the ocean beach. Receiving the go-ahead, we buddied up and trekked to the Atlantic to gather shells and rocks and enjoy the sunshine.

We got lucky with a beautiful day. All of the kids had a splendid time, even the one boy, Jack, who said over and over, “I don’t want to go.”

I told him that I would sit with him near the dunes which he accepted until he decided to join the other children romping at the edge of the water. That’s a big win!

Today was one of those days when there was a 3’ cliff of sand and they really enjoyed climbing and jumping on it. I was happy to see them whooping it up with joy and laughter.

Presently, we are in Ocean City, NJ for a library concert this evening. We came early to do our laundry at the local Scrub Dub and then enjoy an early dinner before the show.

Traveling isn’t all scenic wonders and chatting up the locals. For us, it includes maintaining the camper, our clothes and ourselves. Depending on where we are, the facilities can be ideal or a little less so. Usually, we stay in better than average RV campgrounds, so the showers are usually warm, the laundromats are clean and the RV dumping stations are nicely maintained.

Tonight, we are also going to do our food shopping on the way home. Beth and I cook almost every meal, so we typically do a full shopping every week and pick up odds and ends as needed.

When we need something shipped (like the protein powder I use in my morning smoothies), we have it shipped ahead so it’s available at a campground where we’re staying for a few nights.

Both of us are still working our self-development programs, meeting with ACA fellow travelers or study groups via online meetings or phone calls. After we leave here, we may cut down the number of meetings and calls for a few months. TBD.

I hope you are all healthy and enjoying your summer. I feel fortunate to be here – even if it’s to get the laundry done. Paradise is what you make it.
