One woman’s brave is another woman’s crazy.

People tell us, “You’re brave!” Then they probably go home and tell their spouse who says, “No, Alice. The Bierkos are nuts!”

When I was a teenager I drove faster and partied harder than my peers. When I was 19, I made a speech in a crowded shore restaurant because a promised job didn’t come through. Yes – I was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Crazy people change themselves and, sometimes, the world. Were Ghandi and MLK, the Wright Brothers  and Michael Jackson considered  nuts or brilliant? Yes.

By those standards, our decision to give up our home in the ‘burbs and try living and working in a camper seems very tame. There was some measure of logical thinking that went into the Adventure, but I’d be lying if I didn’t cop to some willing acceptance of risk and more than a little silliness.

My old friends will vouch that I have always taken risks to see if something a little crazy might have a large reward. It’s gotten me in trouble, but it’s never boring. That’s who I am.

It’s an adventure!
