TUESDAY EVENING
The need to slow down and do less hit us both yesterday. In the early afternoon, we took a walk through the backstreets of the Old Town, stopping at an outdoor cafe for double cappuccinos and then enjoying a light lunch with risotto and hummus. As she did in Athens, Georgia many moons ago, Beth enjoyed a very rare afternoon beer.

Speaking of Georgia, Gary and Judy’s daughter of the same name is in Athens!
Back to the narrative…
We came home to our apartment and did absolutely nothing but read, check our emails (booking gigs have begun at home), completed some Duolingo lessons, journaled and caught up on the “Will Biden Run?” story being featured on most European TV channels.
As prominent here is the ongoing Mideast conflict because Al Jazeera is a local station. They have more access and the visuals are, in a word, horrific.
Greece is very close and so our friend, Kostas, fears that Hezbollah could make its presence known in his country. He feels strongly that the USA can call the shots for a peace and he’s anxious that we do so.
But I digress…
On our walk, we stumbled into a small exhibition that featured light, textiles, technology and music with a biodiversity theme. I thought of our friend, Blake, who would be perfect at composing scores for things like this and our friend, Melanie, who might appreciate the creation of baskets using 3D printing. I also liked some of the displays on the floor like the one below.

WEDNESDAY MORNING and AFTERNOON

We enjoyed a veggie omelette for breakfast, walked to the bus station to pick up tickets for tomorrow evening’s trip to the airport, and found a locker to store our luggage after we check out of our apartment in the morning. Our flight from Crete to Athens is tomorrow night and our flight to New York is the following morning. One can get lost in the logistics, but for the local scenery.

If you hadn’t guessed, we are on the beach, again. The water is beautiful and thousands of people of every age, up and down the coast are enjoying it.
Tonight we will return to the Old Town for our final supper of fresh grilled fish and Greek salads at Kostas’ favorite restaurant. It’s a nice life.
