Athens Day Two

The Agora is the part of Athens where Socrates, other philosophers and their students used to hang out. It literally translates to “gathering place,” and it was, in its day, a center for artistic, athletic, spiritual and political life. I guess you could compare it to Central Park.

As many have told us, the food is excellent. I’ve only had one bad meal and that’s because I made a jet-lagged decision to eat too much pasta salad. The last two days, we enjoyed things like fresh tomatoes, juicy oranges, simple salads, seasoned feta cheese in olive oil, spinach pastries, handmade gelato and a lamb and potato dish baked in a clay pot. Yum.

Tomorrow morning, we’re seeing Socrates’ jail and meditating on a hillside for an hour. Then, we take the 4+ hour drive to our next location – an organic farm in Mt. Pelion where we’ll be away from commerce, the tourists and closer to nature. Ahhhhh.
