Bad, Good and Better

Some RV parks – like the one we are staying in for the next two nights in New Jersey – are really glorified parking lots. In order to fit more campers and (I imagine) simplify the underground network of utilities, they get rid of the grass and chop down the trees, thereby eliminating any natural character that may have been here beforehand. Fortunately, these ugly parks are the exception or we have been lucky to avoid most of them over the past few years.

If you’ve never been to a beautiful RV park, then ones like this might seem just fine. But it really ain’t, so try and avoid them if you can. (Vote with your wallet!)

We ended up here because our next destination, a camp on LBI (Long Beach Island), made a last minute schedule change and we had to scramble as a result. Doing this during the summer high season usually means beggars can’t be choosers. Such is adventuring: usually pleasant, but occasionally not so.

When this happens, Beth and I stay close. It’s like going to a big party, a ball game or any large event: we move a little closer to one another to feel safer when our surroundings feel hectic or unpleasant. I think that’s part of the reason why we are a husband and wife team 90% of the time. Life just feels better together.

While here in Jersey, we may take a look at a used RV at a local dealership. It would be a subtle upgrade for us – a bit more comfortable and safer, too. It’s approximately the same size, but has four wheels instead of two and something called a “slide” which makes the RV wider and more spacious.

Our existing trailer is still a good one for us and we might stick with it. It’s economical, easy to setup and operate and that means a lot. Still, an upgrade might be nice, too.

Stay tuned!
