Today, I ordered our Starlink kit, the go-to WiFi router and satellite dish for nomadic adventuresrs. I started seeing these kits last season.
I’m looking forward to not depending on our cell service or the sometimes spotty internet connections at campsites. When we traveled across the country a few years ago, the technology was all about using T-mobile, AT&T or Verizon. It was expensive AND inconsistent. Nowadays, we nomads use a satellite to watch movies, make calls, write a blog post or upload a music video to YouTube.
Speaking of YouTube, I watched a video today about dewinterizing our new camper. If you did not know it, one of the obligations of RV owners is to winterize in the fall and then do its opposite in the spring. Essentially, we put antifreeze into all of the water lines to keep them from freezing and then clear out the same before we shove off. It’s a 20 step process.
Owning and operating a camper involves some learning. Accordingly, I watch videos, make lists and then put them on my phone for referral in the field. More often than not, I also bring Beth into the process because two heads are truly better than one. In our family, I’m the guy who shouts, “Once more into the breech!” and Beth is the who says, “You better tie your shoes first.”
This is not to say I do everything in collaboration with my partner. As of this writing, I am still putting on my pants alone. I just know that if something is difficult or dangerous, we are better off together. (Eventually, this may also include putting on my pants, but that’s a few years in the future.)
Tomorrow, I’m getting my second MRI in two months. My sciatic nerve is still causing me pain when I drive despite physical therapy and a muscle relaxant. I really, really want to get to the bottom of this before driving 6000 miles. Plan B is to have Beth do more of the driving and/or stop more frequently. Again, together we are Bierko Strong!
I am getting excited to leave town, but we still have a few more school gigs, some songs to write and record and a handful of videos to create. While doing the above, I look forward to taking some walks with my beloved, volunteering a bit and listening to the sounds of birds. It’s a good life.
