Pausing the Process

Saturday marks our first free day after camp is finished, Beth and I took a delightful, long walk on the beach. It was already very hot at 8 am, so I was happy to return to the AC!

At 10 am, I enjoyed my weekly call with Jeff, a fellow ACA traveler who I’ve been speaking to weekly for 3-4 years. We have become great friends and trusted allies.

Beth and I are fortunate to have a host of great people we chat with frequently about self-development.

We are currently wondering, though, “How many of these productive conversations and group meetings do we want to maintain while we are in active travel mode starting next week? Would it be best to pause?

My belief is that my wife and I are very attached to personal growth.. Even this blog is a way for me to gaze at my navel. I think we live in an almost always “on” therapeutic state, processing everything and always saying, “what is there to learn?” every day.

This is not a character fault and some would say it’s even a character strength. I agree. Being pensive and aware of our emotions is helpful to our marriage, our relationships with family and it’s also crucial to our work in schools. We are better because of it.

Does there come a time, though, when it’s best to turn “off” the self-development machine? Would it be possible and perhaps pleasurable to pause the processing?

I don’t know the answer to this. So, stay tuned. I may figure it out or I might just let it go.
