Today was interesting in a few different ways…
First, the ocean was delightful, so much so that we skipped out on our weekly ACA meeting to luxuriate in the cool, clean, healing waters. We missed being with our friends, but Beth and I were drawn to the sea. We spent two hours, 9:30 -11:30 am, at the beach and almost all of that was in the waves. Heaven.
Second, we spent a part of this afternoon (as we did yesterday) enjoying a local artist tour. Once a year, local or visiting artisans open their studios to the public here on LBI, so we decided to give it a go.
We talked to a bunch of mostly oil painters, learned a lot and enjoyed some of their work in Barnegat Light and other small towns. I have to admit that I didn’t want to go, at first, but I’m glad I did.
Here at LBIF, we ran into an artist we have known for a few years. She is returning to work with the kids next week. I am not sure what she is going to do with the campers, but today she showcased two modalities: geometric portal paintings and sound bathing. Beth and I hung out with her for an hour and she treated us to a lovely sound bath that helped balance my chakras. More heaven!
While in the bliss of the bath’s energy, I appreciated learning about her portal paintings, a form of Art Medicine that was entirely new to me. It built on an idea we heard from another painter – the point of interest or focal point – that I had never heard of before. After hearing it described once, though, we spoke with many artists who agreed that there is often something in a painting designed to draw our attention. Hmmm.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Beth and I are considering the idea of reducing the amount of therapeutic input for the remainder of our trip. The more I think about it, I believe that we might be due for a change in the frequency of self-growth activities (and, it should be noted, our diet of the overly pessimistic national news). It may be time to be more passive, to ratchet down our desire to improve ourselves and see what comes up.
Stay tuned. I think the portal is up ahead.
