Leaving Youngsville

Tomorrow is our last full day at our cabin in Youngsville, NY, so we are finishing up a song, packing our RV and riding east for two months of summer vacation (and a bit of work).

A few minutes ago, we were sitting outside at a friend’s home enjoying the sunshine and a cool breeze. If all summer days were like this, I’d be a happy camper, indeed. (Like my father before me, I would rather it be a cold winter day than a humid summer one.)

Our friends are leaving Sullivan County to take residence in Massachusetts where they will be closer to their child. They are moving to an adult community where we hope they will thrive for years to come. May it be so.

Through them, we came to know members of the SYDA Foundation who are on the Siddha Path. I’m not familiar with the community’s work, but everyone I’ve met seems grounded, kind and humble. It’s something to learn more about.

Today, some of the members led us in some ecstatic chanting (Kirtan) outdoors. It was super relaxing – the perfect way to begin a month of mostly chilling out, hiking and connecting with friends – and a pleasant way to say goodbye to our friends.

In the meantime, we are sitting at the local laundromat. As Jack Kornfeld once remarked about the transition between the path to realization and the normal world – “After the Ecstasy, the Laundry.”
