Crazy

Today is hot, hot, hot and the sand flies are back, back, back in town. Accordingly, I am enjoying indoor activities where they cannot attack me.

First, we caught up with our friend, Barbara, one of our first clients and, now, best friends. She and her husband, Michael, are snowbirds who we met when Barbara was director of a nursery school in Queens. The two of them spend half of the year in Sullivan County, so we occasionally hook up for sandwiches and coffee talk.

Second, one of my new friends, Kenneth, who I met here at LBIF, recently encouraged me to listen to an album only found on YouTube: Deep Forest 1992. I cranked up my Bluetooth speaker and let it flow over me. This album helped me reacquaint myself with electronic music, found sounds from Africa and the pleasure of just listening.

Third, after lunch, we took out a songbook gifted to us by our friend, Regina, and sang a bunch of songs from the 50s to the 70s. Beth has been asking to return to some singing just for fun on this trip. I enjoyed it, especially hearing Beth sing Willie Nelson’s, “Crazy,” made famous by Patsy Cline.

My afternoon would not have been complete without a little work on the camper. Today, I put two days of fresh water in the tank, did some research on torque wrenches for the lug nuts, and topped off the tires on the truck and RV in anticipation of Wednesday’s departure.

One thing I did not mention in yesterday’s post that drove Beth and I a little bananas: we went out for ice cream on Saturday afternoon. I got a 20 ounce milkshake and Beth got a regular cup with two scoops. The total, including a 15% tip, was $23.50. Driving home, Beth said, “Did we just get ripped off? Did the guy at the register make a mistake?”

The prices were not on their website, so yesterday I stopped into the store thinking, “I’m not going to demand my money back. I’ll just ask for more ice cream.”

No need. The milkshake was $12.25 and the cup of ice cream was $8.25.

Crazy, indeed.
