Possess Me Not

As of yesterday, everything we own is in front of us, viewable and categorized so that we can prepare for our estate sale in mid-January. When that’s through, the next steps will be to move treasured (or useful) things to a small storage unit. Next, we’ll give away items and furniture to Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity or other organizations. Finally, we’ll park a dumpster in the driveway and chuck what remains.

Our goal is to put as little as possible into a landfill. I’ll give credit to Beth for guiding us to that conclusion. As you may recall from a previous post, my gunslinger-like personality likes to shoot first and ask questions later. Hence, I was ready to just throw a lot of good and useful stuff out rather than methodically whittling it down over a couple of months.

I feel really good about seeing everything in front of me rather than having it squirreled away in the attic. We are one step closer to letting it go, to moving towards the lightness I think we’ll feel when we own less. I imagine it as a burden we will put down. Stay tuned to see if I’m right about that!
