Leave Your Heart Open

The song, “Leave Your Heart Open,” was inspired when my friend, Ruth, lost her father.

Looking back, Ruth wasn’t someone who needed a reminder from me to let her emotions out. Like many women I’ve known, Ruth was three-thousand percent more in-touch with her emotions than this man was during his early adulthood.

So, I think the song was a safe way for me to explore grief with the help of someone else’s loss.

The song was composed in an open E tuning, so it has a drone-like quality that works for the sensitivity of the lyrics.

I love the harmony, so kudos to Regina Singel and Beth Bierko for adding the feminine touch this song needed to touch hearts.
